Shortest Path

Hannah Casey-Brogan: Shortest Path

The Ulster University Art Gallery is pleased to announce its upcoming exhibition, Hannah Casey-Brogan: 'Shortest Path’.

Hannah Brogan-Casey, ‘Meltwater’, Watercolour and Pen on Paper, 2018

Hannah’s new work was made over the last two years between her studio and kitchen table.

Always mindful of her audience, Hannah creates perspectives that can sometimes challenge the viewers, placing them precariously on a cliff edge or at a safe distance, as if one is looking at the scene through binoculars. The scale of her work, somewhere between the size of a postcard and an airplane window, proposes an intimate viewing experience.

In an essay accompanying the exhibition, Riann Coulter observes: “The title Shortest Path, suggests the route taken by flowing water or electricity - the path of least resistance – a short cut in the process of navigating between two identities. Like a river meandering through a landscape, the journey erodes and shapes the terrain and changes the traveller.”
